The Commissioner of Revenue office is responsible for the assessment of the following taxes: real estate, personal property and machinery and tools. In addition, business licenses are issued by the commissioner and must be issued my March 1 of each year. This office also assists residents with state income returns, as well as a tax relief program for the county’s elderly. (Business licenses and state income taxes are paid in the treasurer’s office) The office also processes land-use applications.
Larry Snow is the elected Commissioner of the Revenue for the county. The office is open from 8am. to 4:30pm., Monday through Friday and is located in the law building on Ford Avenue in Stanardsville. The office can be reached at 985-5211.
