UVA BASEBALL: A long night ahead

Due to a lengthy game to start the day between Georgia Tech and North Carolina State and a weather delay for lightning in the area prior to the third game, Virginia could be in for a long night. The Florida State-Wake Forest contest, which precedes Virginia’s opening game in the ACC Tournament, is slated to start at 6:25 p.m. There will also be a 45-minute period between games for the two teams to get ready. Luckily for Virginia, a day off will follow on Thursday. ... I spoke with N.C. State coach Elliott Avent earlier today after his contest and he feels that Virginia will make the NCAA Tournament regardless of how it fares in the ACC Tournament. Avent pointed at the strength of the ACC this year and the Cavaliers’ great RPI. ... One of the possible sites being mentioned here this week for the 2010 ACC Tournament is Aberdeen, Md. That would be a great destination for Cavalier fans. ... A certain buzz was created when St. John’s was two-and-BBQ in the Big East Tournament. Some projections had UVa heading to New York to play in a regional with St. John’s. That’s now out the window
