Designated for Assignment

Down and out: Florida State 80, Virginia 75 (Final)

The Seminoles, who have won eight straight, entered the contest shooting just 58.3 percent from the charity stripe in league games (46 of 79), but nailed 20 of 27, including those that mattered most, in the final minute of the game. ... Virginia’s biggest problem in the game, outside allowing the Seminoles to make 10 3-pointers, centered upon their failure to play early in the second half. FSU opened the second half on an impressive run and led by 13 points with 12:24 left in the contest. The Cavaliers slowly chipped away and cut the defecit to one point on numerous occassions, but never managed to take the lead.
... Virginia junior Monica Wright missed 13 shots from the field (she made six), but managed to use 12 free throws to finish with a game-high 24 points. She also grabbed 10 rebounds (four offensive, six defensive).
... Virginia senior forward Lyndra Littles chipped in with 21 points and six rebounds, but missed a pull-up jumper from 13 feet out with 23 seconds left that would have given the Cavaliers a one-point lead.
... The crowd was announced at 3,847 and sounded louder at times. It was the largest crowd of the season.
... All-world referee Dee Kantner was in the house. She is among the best in the business.
