Designated for Assignment

Fumble fever: Virginia 0, Clemson 0 (1st Qtr.)

The Cavaliers’ defense actually held Clemson out of the end zone. Nice work. Give credit to Clemson’s offensive coordinator (he went for it on fourth-and-1) and forgot he had C.J. Spiller on his team. Instead, the Tigers went with a shotgun formation and quarterback Kyle Parker raced to his right, but was pushed out of bounds by Virginia linebacker Steve Greer. ... Several Virginia players of note did not travel today. Back-up quarterback Marc Verica stayed home. Ross Metheny did make the trip and will serve as the No. 3 QB behind Jameel Sewell and Riko Smalls. Mike Parker, who had penalties in back-to-back weeks, was also left in the ‘Ville.
