Happy gets humbled: Omaha Day One

In the past year or so, I stumbled into an interview with North Carolina standount Jessica Breland. Covering Virginia due to job loyalties, Breland embraced me solely as a writer and not an outsider. By the end of a short interview, Breland all but tried to hug this scribe as sweat fell in every direction off her body.
Breland, a senior, was dagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and is being treated at a UNC hospital.
The weeks that will follow will not be easy for Breland. Yet she remains strong.
“The last few weeks have been a really emotional time for me, but I’ve got a very positive attitude about my treatment and I’m looking forward to getting healthy and getting back to playing basketball as soon as possible,“ said Breland. “I’ve been keeping my normal schedule, going to class, helping out with camp, and I’m not going to let this get me down. I’ve got lots of love and support from my family, my friends, my teammates and my coaches and I know I’ll be back and better than ever soon.”
