Hedgeman has the record: Monticello 36, Richlands 14 (4th Qtr.)

Monticello running back Takeem Hedgeman has scored three touchdowns, setting the state record for touchdowns scored in a season. Hedgeman, a senior, found the end zone for the third time with 2:53 left in the third quarter. Hedgeman passed Virginia tailback Cedric Peerman, who scored 50 touchdowns for William Campbell in 2002. ... Call me crazy, but some school, Division I-A or Division I-AA, is going to luck out on this kid. Last week, as I watched, Takeem showed toughness. Today, when I was not typing, Takeem showed me a nice juke move and the ability to take a hit and fall forward for an additional two yards. ... A reader asked earlier about the crowd at Williams Stadium. From my spot in the press box, Richlands has about 2,200 fans here (they sounded like 4,000 before the game). Monticello probably has closer to 1,800, but they sound like about 5,000. The listed figure afterwards will be misleading as fans have already arrived to watch Amherst play Sherando.  ... Richlands scored with 9:24 left in the fourth to trim the margin. ... Monticello senior Jake Miles was hurt several minutes ago, but after limping off the field he is jumping around the room.

Thanks for setting the stage for this awesome game.  Spirits must be soaring!  We must all remember there’s no guarantee any one school will ever reach this high level again.  If Monticello pulls this win off, it will be a HUGE accomplishment.  I hope all the recruiters get a good look today!
