Record Watch: Jimmy Howell slighty off pace
Virginia punter Jimmy Howell has been in Charlottesville almost two months and has his mind - or foot - set on breaking a long-held record. Let’s start the watch here. So far (and we have 10 minutes left), Howell has punted 12 times. Should he be held without another punt today (I find that hard to believe), Howell is on a pace for 72 punts in the regular season. That would leave Howell short, however, of the school record set by Russ Henderson. In 1977, Henderson punted a whopping total of 85 times. Man, that team must have been bad. Well, they were. They went 1-9-1 and were held scoreless in six games. Ouch.
