Southern Cal quarterback Mark Sanchez is likely to lead the Trojans’ first offensive series against Virginia on Saturday, according to multiple media outlets.
How long Sanchez plays, however, is a mystery.
The junior dislocated his kneecap in the early stages of training camp and just returned to practice. The time away from practice - and conditioning - could force USC coach Pete Carroll to insert Aaron Corp or Mitch Mustain.
“There’s still some question how long Mark can play,” Carroll said. “You get tired and stay tired. Some of it will depend on how we manage the game.”
Virginia is not expected to name a starting quarterback before the opener.
