Ugly start for Cavs: UConn 7, Virginia 0 (1st Qtr.)

Ouch. Virginia won the coin toss and tried to let its defense set the tone. That move blew up in a Hartford minute (well, seven minutes). With 8:44 left in the opening quarter, UConn punched in its first score of the game. The Cavaliers were horrid at tackling. There were plenty of blame to be passed around.
After the touchdown, Virginia came out slinging on offense, but new quarterback Marc Verica settled for short passes, which eventually led to the first punt of Jimmy Howell’s night. Howell had better get loose. He could be in for a long evening. The same could be said Will Barker, who was exposed on a play that almost cost Verica his right arm in the process.
