All 11 congressional district chairs have signed a letter asking Republican Party of Virginia Chairman John H. Hager to stay on for another term.

Hager said Monday that he will heed the call and seek a full term as state GOP chairman at the party’s May 31 convention in Richmond.

Hager had kind words for former Albemarle Del. Paul Harris, who chairs Americans for Prosperity/Virginia and was touted last week as an excellent choice if Hager were to step down, according to a veteran GOP member of the House.

“I think Paul would be a great future leader,“ Hager said. “It’s just not a good time to make a change.“

Del. Jeff Frederick, R-Woodbridge, is running for the position, the Prince William County Republican lawmaker confirmed.

He said he is running to bring about bold, new change.

GOP legislators give Frederick little chance of unseating Hager.
