The speech Barack Obama gave on race in America and on his pastor’s racially-tinged remarks was well done and effective, said Gov. Tim Kaine.
“I think he did well,“ Kaine said. “I think the senator has a very good chance of continuing to do well.“
“He condemned the divisive statements,“ Kaine said of Obama. “He said this is a country that has to be about higher goals of making the union more perfect and bringing us together as a nation.“
Speaking on Roanoke public radio WVTF’s “Evening Edition” live call-in program Tuesday night, Kaine said that Obama’s pastor, Jeremiah Wright, “has used often divisive rhetoric to talk about the challenges that our society faces. ... Pastor Wright used some divisive and unfortunate rhetoric, but that is not Sen. Obama’s feelings.“
