Welcome back to Crunch Time
It appears Virginia’s football team will be at full strength for Duke in a key Coastal Division game at Scott Stadium on Saturday.
According to UVa’s weekly injury report published Thursday, the only Cavalier starter that will miss the game is wide receiver Matt Snyder, who has missed the last several games due to a leg injury. No other UVa players are listed as either “Doubtful” or “Questionable.“
That means that Coach Mike London will have all hands on deck in an attempt to halt a three-year losing streak to the Blue Devils, who enter the game with a 3-6 record. Virginia remains in the ACC’s Coastal Division race and controls its own destiny. Should the Wahoos win out against Duke, Florida State and Virginia Tech, they would win the division and advance to the ACC Championship game in Charlotte next month.
Several Cavaliers are listed as “Probable,“ including the following: Luke Bowanko (upper extremity); Thompson Brown (medical); Cam Johnson (lower extremity); Rodney McLeod (lower extremity); Colter Phillips (lower extremity); and Draquan Romero (lower extremity).
That report was produced by UVa Sports Medicine’s staff directed by Dr. David Diduch.
In other ACC news, Miami’s basketball team has lost one of its players for the season due to the NCAA investigation into improper benefits that haunted Al Golden’s football program earlier this season. On Thursday, Miami announced that senior forward DeQuan Jones will not participate in competition this season due to the joint investigation by the NCAA and Miami.
The 6-8 Jones played in 28 games last season for the Hurricanes and started 10, averaging 4.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
On another note, we chatted with UVa basketball coach Tony Bennett on Thursday about his two preseason scrimmages and will offer his comments on those two scrimmages on Friday’s Crunch Time blog.
