Only one day from sophomore KT Harrell announcing that he was leaving Virginia’s men’s basketball program, redshirt freshman forward James Johnson said today that he is planning to transfer as well.
UVa coach Tony Bennett said in a release only moments ago that he met with Johnson on Saturday morning and Johnson said that he is transferring.
“I wish him well,“ Bennett said. “Obviously with KT Harrell yesterday and James today deciding not to continue at Virginia, I am disappointed. But with that being said, if James and KT feel it’s best for them not to be here, I think it’s better for everyone to part ways.“
Johnson, a 6-9 forward who was part of Bennett’s first real recruiting class, nicknamed “The Six Shooters,“ is the fourth of the six to leave the program, leaving only Joe Harris and Akil Mitchell. Johnson played in only six games this season and scored nine points and eight rebounds.
For more information on Johnson’s exit, stay tuned for more from Whitey Reid’s report later today.
