still thrillered 25 years later

imageAs Michael Jackson himself said, “I always thought Halloween and ‘Thriller’ fit each other like a glove.“ Fitting then, that on All-Hallows Eve eve 73 fans broke the world record for the most people dancing to “Thriller” at the same time at Madame Tussaud’s New York. The participants were treated to dance lessons, zombie makeovers, and photo ops with the wax statue of M.Jacks. What a perfect way to celebrate the music video’s 25th anniversary!

happy halloween!

imageMy Halloween ritual: get up super early and take in a horror flick with a bowl of ice cream for breakfast. While I’d rather spend the day on the downtown mall, we’re definitely in the holiday spirit here at Charlottesville Woman with this epic playlist, courtesy of SeeqPod playable music search, and a giant basket of Milk Maid caramels, courtesy of my mom. Tonight? You’ll find us roaming the streets with teeny trick-or-treaters before dark, then we’re off to take in a few flicks at the film festival. In costume, of course, thanks to my mom who made me this red riding hood and skirt, complete with vintage crinoline petticoat.

these pants were made for journalism

imageI would live in loungewear every day if I could get away with it. It looks sloppy, but comfort is a must when powering through 14-hour work days.

Thank goodness for the Gap’s skinny jeans. The stretch denim fits the body beautifully, and they’re especially flattering when tucked into boots. But best of all, the moderate rise stays put without drifting into “mom pants” territory- no plumber booty! No time wasted adjusting the waist! I wore these to photograph a concert over the weekend and they stayed comfortably in place as I dashed back and forth, crouched in the front row, and sat on the floor. Active mothers with teeny children should definitely give these a try. $64.50 at the Gap.

Loveable Laptop Tote

image
When I bought my new MacBook Pro a couple months ago, I decided I didn’t want a ridiculously huge and unattractive laptop case. After looking around a bit, I finally found the nearly perfect bag. Built NY Laptop Case in “Dot No.7/Powder Blue.“

I initially bought the Built NY Laptop Sleeve at Best Buy, but still wasn’t satisfied. Every once in a while I’d see another product from Built NY and finally found their laptop case online. It’s curvy design and ingenious construction of abrasion resistant material and protective extra-thick neoprene fabric, lends itself to ease of movement while providing a durable shell for your laptop. I was sold; I decided to splurge and order this swanky laptop tote.

I don’t carry my laptop around too often, but on a recent trip to visit my sister, I got to test the bag out. Here’s what I found.

Things I love about this bag:
Its removable laptop insert allows me to easily retrieve and replace my laptop to and from my bag. It also adds stability when using the laptop, well, on my lap. Not to mention, it’s 4 pockets on the flip side houses important items like my thumb drive, cds and phone.

The soft-grip handles on this bag are amazingly accessible. I think it’s probably because the material is so pliable and moldable, it fits right to your hand. This helps so much, especially when I’m always on the go and need to pick up my bag and run.

The only drawback:
Since this bag is made of neoprene - the same material used for wetsuits - it’s usually a tight fit and you can see the shape of all your contents. But, this is easily remedied by balancing the contents evenly and routinely cleaning out your bag. (Which is actually a good thing for me!)

daisy, daisy

imageWhen it comes to style, I am notoriously hard to please. I demand effortless perfection in color, texture, lines, form, and inevitably scent. Impulse purchases rarely happen, usually a minor misstep in an item’s composition, from the wrong width of rugby stripe to overly plastic packaging, intervenes. That’s why Daisy Marc Jacobs is sort of my personal miracle: in my eyes, it can do no wrong. The fragrance itself is lovely; not particularly original or memorable, but comfortable and mildly quirky. The blend of strawberry, violets, grapefruit, gardenia, and white woods somehow works with everything in my wardrobe, from jeans and sweaters to cocktail dresses. But my infatuation is truly fueled by the fragrance’s branding. The rubber daisy-topped bottle filled with pale gold eau de toilette is precious like a basket full of tiny bunnies.

imageimageI hoped my crush on Daisy would subside, but the fragrance launched over a year ago and I’m more obsessed than ever. The number of times I look at Daisy online per week is absurd. I have now mastered all the adorable games on daisymarcjacobs.com, and decked out my laptop with the screensaver and wallpaper available on the site. I carry the teeny purse spray (shown above) with me everywhere. Maybe I convinced a friend to name her new orangy white kitten Daisy. I would dress up as a Daisy girl for Halloween if I could handle the questions about what I’m supposed to be. But in the meantime, I might just have to order this adorable Daisy necklace and perhaps the matching ring.
