My (early) New Year Resolution

Text size: small | medium | large

OMG! I just signed up for an organized race. Did I fall out of bed last night and onto my head? For those who know me personally, you know I am not Ms. Suzy Exerciser. Heck, my name is not even Suzy. I am not one who sticks with any exercise routine for long.

So, what prompts this big change? I stepped on the scale at the doctor office Monday and I nearly fainted. How do I weigh more now than I did when I was pregnant? Oh, yeah, probably the stress of a divorce, an out-of-the-house full-time job again for the first time in 10 years, the fibromyalgia flare-ups and the constantly close eye I have to now keep on my finances (not a bad thing, btw). No matter what the exact cause is, I have decided it is time to get moving!

Since the separation in 2008 my body has made an amazing comeback from the constant pain of fibromyalgia. Ironically, I am now more active (and happy) in my day-to-day life than I was before, but it is not exercise by any stretch of the imagination. So, I am taking this day to make my New Year resolutions—to one and all—that I am going to begin an exercise routine. I will start slowly so as not to injure myself. I will begin with walking, but if I can get to running I am going to do it! I have already started with a mile-and-a-half walk around the mall yesterday at lunch. I am going to do that three times a week building up to more and more miles.

At home, I am going to bust out that Wii Fit and work on muscle strength. I will get the kids involved, too, augmenting the mall walking with neighborhood walks that include the pups. A time to be fit and together could do us all some good! Maybe the boyfriend will participate with us (hint, hint).

I am signed up for the Martha Jefferson MJ8K Run and 4K Walk on March 13, 2010 as part of Team CHO. Of course, right now I am signed up as a walker—not sure the joints can take running, or if the fibromyalgia will flare up if I try, but I am no longer discounting it completely! Any tips from those who have been where I am would be extremely welcomed.

It is going to be a new year and a new decade and I am going to make these next 10 years the best I have ever lived! Hope they are for all of you, too! Good luck to all of you in turning your resolutions into realities.

Way to go! I know you’ll do it. I’m so proud of you and if you work your way from walking to running and up to bouncing I might just be able to get you into Jazzercising, too!

Good luck Terry!

Since I started working out I sleep, feel and look better. It is amazing what a good work out does for the brain (and the body)!

All of us at Strong Team and Fluco Blog wish you well.

Good for you, and best of luck, Terry!

You’ll be amazed at the many ways regular exercise can improve your health and life.  Plus, there is that whole “fulfilling a goal” process that works wonders, too.

YOU CAN DO IT!
