PCA Presents: Women in the Arts

Piedmont Council of the Arts (PCA) is proud to announce “PCA Presents: Women in the Arts,” an exhibition on view in the upstairs hall at McGuffey Art Center throughout the month of June. “PCA Presents: Women in the Arts” features portrait images of women in the arts in our community taken by 12 local women photographers.

PCA will host a special “Preview Party” fundraiser on Thursday, June 3 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at McGuffey Art Center. There will be a public First Friday opening on Friday, June 4, and the exhibit will be on view throughout the month in accordance with McGuffey’s open hours for the public.

Exhibiting Artists: Lynne Brubaker, Stacey Evans, Jen Fariello, Ashley Florence, Stephanie Gross, Peggy Harrison, Barrie Humphries, Mary Motley Kalergis, Susan Kalergis, Ashley Twiggs, Sarah Cramer Shields, and Rachel Zahumensky.

Featured Subjects: Rita Mae Brown, I-Jen Fang, Jen Fariello, Rose Hill, Wendy Hsu, Mary Kalergis, Janet Kaltenbach, Miki Liszt, Bree Luck, Zap McConnell, Beatrix Ost, Laura Parsons, Leah Paschal, Karen Pellón, Morgan Perkins, Sharon Shapiro, Judith Shatin, Erica Shergold, Anne Slaughter, Lisa Russ Spaar, Leah Stoddard, Laura Thomas, Lyn Warren and more.

Preview Party: Proceeds from the Thursday, June 3 preview party will benefit PCA’s services to artists and audience development efforts. Tickets are $20 for PCA Members; $30 for nonmembers, and can be purchased online at http://www.charlottesvillearts.org/events. The event will include live entertainment by Performers Exchange Project (PEP) and musician Gina Sobel. Harvest Moon Catering and Market Street Wineshop will provide celebratory refreshments.

Silent Auction: During the preview party, PCA will highlight creative women in the business sector of our community through a silent auction of gifts donated by local women-owned businesses. Silent auction donors include Petit Bebe, Cappellino’s Crazy Cakes, Holladay Spa, Scarpa, and many more.

Contact Nikki Melton at for a full list of featured businesses. Preview Party guests will have the opportunity to bid on more than 40 items in the silent auction and purchase raffle tickets for prizes including a special portrait session with an exhibiting photographer.
