Construction has already begun on the county’s portion of the Meadowcreek Parkway. The city has yet to begin construction on its section known as McIntire Road Extended. What are your thoughts on this long debated project?

Terrible idea.  It consumes parkland, goes right next to a high school, athletic fields, and the older established neighborhoods in the Greenbrier area, destroys woods and fields, and it doesn’t even take people to 29 N, it dumps them out on Rio Road a good distance from 29.

Please, build it already!  I have been here 12 yrs and am tired of the stone-walling and hand -wringing on this subject.  I am all for conservation and protecting the enviornment, but Charlottesville roads are a major impediment to intrastate/interstate commerce, quality of life, mass transit, and alternative transportation (biking).  The only redeeming qualities of McIntire park (the ball fields) will be preserved.  The “save McIntire park” crowd should spend their efforts supporting the Rivanna trails foundation and groups that want to develop and preserve the network of trails that provide useful spaces for hiking, biking, and walking along our rivers and greenways around our city.

All we hear from is the activist crowd that opposes everything.  I think its time to voice some support for this project.

How can they be spending money at one end, and they don’t even know what they are going to build at the other end? or even if they are going to build the other end? Its liable to end badly with a lot of money being used up and no actual finished road. Also, if it does get finished, within about fifteen seconds the road builders will start their campaign for eliminating parking on Ridge/McIntire and to take about forty feet away from the outfield of the little league field next to old Lane High School. This “parkway” doesn’t solve anything and uses up a fortune in public money in an era when road money is tight.
