Caught her!
When we last left the saga of Kay’s Mazie, she had run away again from my husband, Jim. This time he didn’t bother to go running. It was freezing outside and he figured sooner or later she’d come home.
Periodically, he’s peak out the back windows to check on her. Mazie would be sitting down smack in the middle of our backyard. On the off chance he would open the door to her and call her to come back, which he did one time, she took off like a shot again into the darkness.
So it was on my way home last night, the scenario that I would come upon when I entered our parking space.
I wasn’t too keen on what kind of reception I would get from her, but I kept an open mind.
I pulled in [our drive is covered with gravel and actually is horizontal on our property rather than straight in - you know, like a parking lot
]. Yep, there she was, sitting center court in the yard. Her eyes got that flourescent sheen to them when the headlights hit them.
She couldn’t have know it was me, but up she rose and began to trot over. I opened the door, got a glimpse of her and said, “Mazie wanna go for a ride?“ Then, before I knew it, I didn’t see her again. I thought she took off again.
Actually she had walked to the rear of the car, with her head down, as if she knew she’d been bad. I told her it was OK as I opened the back door. I asked her again if she wanted to go for a ride and she turned to enter the car. I told her, “Good girl Mazie!“ and she got in. Boom, the back door shut.
Woo hoo! That was easy! Whew!
I gathered my personal items and brought them in the house while our little poochie pooch stayed in the car. I grabbed her leash and hooked her up and escorted her back into the warm house.
I got her a 30 foot tether today. We’ll see if she likes that. Maybe just being outside for a little bit will help with the dashing away.
Keep your fingers crossed!
