Home sanctuary for the brids

It may not be a jungle at the Central Virginia Parrot Sanctuary, but with 31 macaws, 40 cockatiels, 10 parakeets, 20 African grays, 20 conures, eight Quaker parrots and one quail, it sure sounds like one.

University of Virginia’s 2008 graduation ceremony

The University of Virginia awarded about 6,000 degrees on Sunday, May 18, 2008 during the 179th commencement.  A light rain didn’t stop raucous celebrations among the graduates and their families, who filled the Lawn with cheers and emotion.

Melody’s Rescue

Crozet volunteer fire fighters and animal rescue helped free Melody, a mixed breed dog who had been stuck inside a culvert since Friday at a farm on Shelton Mills Road in Crozet, VA. Owner Catherine Hermary-Vieille says her dog had gone missing Friday night after heavy storms passed through the area possible scaring the dog into the pipe. Rescue workers worked together for over an hour digging, sawing and eventually freeing the dog. Melody was taken to her veterinarian for observation.
