Late January Winter Storm

Freezing rain and sleet mixed with precious few snow flakes to coat the central Virginia area Tuesday and Wednesday. All in all it has been an ugly mess sending cars sledding down roads and kids skidding to abrupt halts on muddy hills.

Horse foundation tries to outrun the recession

The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation at Montpelier is struggling to care for its herd of race horses in the face of the recession. The foundation relies on donors to sponsor or adopt the horses, but as the economy continues its slide, more horses are in need of care and fewer people are able to help.
