Seniors compete in Wii Olympic bowling

Our Lady of Peace residents are getting into the Olympic spirit with a statewide competition of Nintendo Wii bowling.  Several teams compete at the Hillsdale Drive retirement community and the scores are compared with other nursing homes around the state.  For many seniors, it’s the first time they’ve ever played a video game.

Virgil Goode

On Saturday, July 19th, the Daily Progress traveled to Clarksville in Southside Virginia during the annual Virginia Lake Festival. 5th District incumbent Virgil Goode was interviewed during a break from talking to constituents walking between the street vendors on Virginia Ave.

Tom Perriello

On Sunday, July 20th, The Daily Progress traveled to the Crystal Cathedral in Buckingham County. 5th District Congressional candidate Tom Perriello running against incumbent Virgil Goode spoke to the congregation about his relationship with god, his travels to war torn countries, and the current troubling economic conditions.

Greene County demolition derby

Car lovers, drivers, and fans of destruction gather at the Greene County fairgrounds Saturday, August 9, 2008 for the demolition derby.  The derby pits stripped down cars against each other in a fight to the death.  Winners live to drive in the final round, losers limp off the playing arena with the aid of tow trucks and tractors.

Caring for “Cookie”

Thirty-one macaws seized by animal
control officials from an Orange County couple in May are back in the hands of their owners and on their way to a Florida facility.

Andrew Neilson fostered “Cookie” in the time between her seizure and return.
