President Bush visits Monticello

His greeting to the audience - many of them waving red, white and blue fans to keep themselves cool on the muggy July morning - was plain and simple: “Happy Fourth of July.“ But the 43rd president quickly delved into a more complex message of American citizenry and freedom.

‘Once in a lifetime’ chance draws thousands

Several thousand people lined up outside the Monticello Visitor’s Center in Charlottesville, Va on Wednesday, July 2 2008 for tickets to the 2008 Independence Day Celebration and Naturalization Ceremony at Monticello featuring guest speaker President George W. Bush.

Charlottesville-Albemarle Kennel Club Dog Show

Charlottesville-Albemarle Kennel Club Dog Show judge Chuck Winslow appraised the tournament’s seven furry finalists.
Arrayed before him Saturday at the Foxfield racetrack was a black standard poodle, a fluffy Pekingese, a smooth fox terrier, a Bernese mountain dog, a rough collie, a petit basset griffon vendeen and a regal orange-and-white English pointer.

Home sanctuary for the brids

It may not be a jungle at the Central Virginia Parrot Sanctuary, but with 31 macaws, 40 cockatiels, 10 parakeets, 20 African grays, 20 conures, eight Quaker parrots and one quail, it sure sounds like one.
