Charlottesville Lady Arm Wrestlers charity tournament

By: Megan Lovett | Published: April 09, 2008 7:45 PM

On the second Tuesday of every month, Charlottesville Lady Arm Wrestlers take over Blue Moon Diner, transforming it from a neighborhood eatery to a wrestling ring. Providing a riotous mash-up of theater and athleticism, the event raises money for a different woman-initiated local charity each month.

In April, the donations went to P.E.A.C.E. Scooter run by Alix Bryan, who wrestles under the name “Cowgirl Sady-istic.“  Bryan will ride her scooter around the United States this summer tracing a peace sign-shaped route.

“Our attempt was to create an event where, like pro-wrestling, anything can happen,“ said CLAW co-founder Jennifer Tidwell.  Tidwell says the event transcends social boundaries, attracting kids, “big time arts patrons,“ and Blue Moon regulars.

What a delightful presentation. You captured the evening perfectly. I only apologize to my fans for the excessive smoking, drinking, and shouting at the CLAW event. Not very ladylike behavior. Perhaps these wrestling-types should enroll in my etiquette class at Sweet Briar. I could at least teach them how to cross their legs properly and to style their hair without the use of plastic bananas.
