Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy J. Longo held a press conference at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 21st, 2008 to update the public on the investigation status into the slaying of Joshua Anthony Magruder. Magruder’s body was found Saturday in the 700 Block of Sixth Street Southeast.

During a wide-ranging visit with Daily Progress reporters and editors, Gov. Timothy M. Kaine on Friday wouldn’t rule out himself as a candidate for vice president on Sen. Barack Obama’s ticket (though the governor said he also hasn’t been asked). Kaine also suggested Obama should consider Hillary Clinton for the ticket. In more local matters, the governor continued to push for his newest plan to generate money to maintain and build Virginia roads, which will be hashed over in a special legislative session. And he talked about the relative stability of Virginia’s economy through tough times, while acknowledging that surging gas prices and other challenges have more Virginians worried today.

Three University of Virginia graduate students have built a robot that performs avant-garde musical compositions. “This is the first instrument in what will one day become a huge robot orchestra,” said Troy Rogers, one of the device’s designers. “It will begin to dominate the global soundscape.”
