Sorry for what, exactly?

Slade Woodson says he's sorry he didn't stop a shooting spree that terrorized motorists and kept police busy, but his apology rings hollow as it doesn't indicate that he clearly understands the events were his fault, caused by him and not some external force. Truly taking responsibility for his actions includes accepting the fact that they were his fault to begin with.

Just too cool

It's steamy hot in the well-clothed city -- Charlottesville's city councilors would never allow the city to be naked -- but there are cool breezes blowing down the roads in the form of Riders of the Lunatic Fringe, motorcyclists who take themselves to work and back on two wheels, whether it be tiny scooters or big scoots. On Wednesday, National Ride To Work Day will encourage all motor owners to scoot and ride themselves to the office to call attention to their toys.

Ride to work.

Wednesday is Ride To Work Day nationwide and all riders of two-wheeled vehicles are encouraged to helmet up and leather down to take their scoots, big and small to work. Heck, push pedal if you want, because the whole idea is to increase awareness among coworkers that YOU are out there riding, you and thousands of fellow Riders of the Lunatic Fringe.

Now what?

It was a long, three-day holiday with some new experiences, from President Bush and protesters to insight and incite. And, to cap it all off, we walked down to Charlottesville High School under threat of severe storm, put down our seats and watched the McIntire Park fireworks. OK, others watched them. For the first time in my life, I managed to sleep through them.
