One Brick Short

It was a long, three-day holiday with some new experiences, from President Bush and protesters to insight and incite. And, to cap it all off, we walked down to Charlottesville High School under threat of severe storm, put down our seats and watched the McIntire Park fireworks. OK, others watched them. For the first time in my life, I managed to sleep through them. 

In memory of a fellow motorcyclist who died in single vehicle crash last week: Matthew B. Thomas, 22, of North Garden. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Garden Volunteer Fire Department.

Supporters and opponents of President Bush stood in line together to get tickets for the Fourth of July event at Monticello with nary a smidgen of violence or anger directed at each other. Considering the length of the line and the width of the wait, it proves that Americans are a classy group of decent folks, at least in Central Virginia. 

The letters are coming in as folks line up on either side of the newest Bush to be planted at Monticello. It’s going to be an exciting couple of days with lots and lots of interesting deeds and commentaries so sharpen your number 2 pencil, get your notebooks out and quote. 

The effort to disinvite—as opposed to disembowel—the President of the United States from speaking at Monticello has created a veritable plethora of missives. For your enjoyment and enlightenment, we present some selected samples of the musings and writings to get an idea of what people are thinking.
