1,000 Holiday Turkeys
1,000 holiday turkeys—why does that make me flashback to WKRP In Cincinnati and the great radio stunt of dropping 1,000 live turkeys from a helicopter over the Thanksgiving Day parade, newsman Les Nessman with his “oh, the inhumanity of it all!” live on the air and station owner Mr. Carlson’s famous hand-over-the-heart confession: “With God as my witness I swear I thought turkeys could fly”?
Anyway, two local couples have put together to donate 900 of the delicious birds to the Thomas Jefferson Area Food Bank as a way to spread holiday cheer, said Ruth Jones, spokeswoman for the food bank network based in Harrisonburg. Heck, you don’t even need to stand arms outstretched beneath a helicopter.
Edward and Pat Schuler and Paul and Diane Manning purchased the birds after hearing about increased need and decreased donations in Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Network. Mr. Schuler is a wig at Bio-Cat, Inc., in Fluvanna County and Mr. Manning is the man at PBM Products, in Gordonsville.
Thanks folks. Glad you’re here.
