And Down It Came

At 8 a.m. the snow began.

By 9 a.m. the car was covered, the sidewalk white and the streets slick. By 9:30 they announced the cancelation of city schools as cars and trucks and even a cop or two slipped and slid in the slush and off the shoulders of freeways and highways.

At 10:30 as the middle schools let out and buses full of younguns hit the city streets, the accidents slowed down in number as traffic backed up four miles on the interstate in both directions and those who could make it to work did.

At 11 a.m., with snow and slush on the roadway, the let out the high school. At 11:15 a gasoline tanker turned sideways on U.S. 250 near Shadwell, blocking traffic and turning rush hour into anything but. At 11:30, the snow turned into sleet. At 12:30, taking a short lunch break with Monty Python (We’re the knights of the roundtable....) and the dog, the sleet backed off in intensity. At 12:45, the roads were near to clear, although still slippery.

At 1:20 p.m., folks are wrecking up on White Hall Road and the mountain areas of Albemarle and VDOT is working at getting the side roads clear and ready for evening traffic.

Winter: Isn’t it a wonderland?
