As the Ears Go By
I’ve been hunted by a beagle, knocked out cold by a German shepherd, bitten by miniature lap-yaps and kissed by a pit bull and I gotta tell ya that whoever cut the dog’s ears off with a box cutter should have his lopped off with a pair of nail clippers.
Here’s the story as told by the Associated Press: Danville police were serving a warrant on a fine, upstanding citizen of that community when they happened to notice a pit bull puppy with its ears cut off. Not just cut off, but sliced off by a man with a box cutter—a razor blade, in other words. Seems it wasn’t just a horrible act of mutilation, it was done on purpose.
The dogs owner had actually paid another man to cut off the ears—not crop them, but cut them off.
Usually dogs with their ears purposefully cut off are used for fighting, the missing ears giving the opposing canine one less thing to grip between its teeth.
The Danville Humane Society has filed for permanent custody of the puppy, and is offering a reward to find and convict the person who cut the puppy’s ears. In a perfect world, one in which I would be king, then would then provide the same sartorial treatment to both the owner and the man who did the cutting.
Seems fair to me.
