Best Prank Call, Yet?
Deep in the heart of Texas, state troopers busted in on a 1,700-acre ranch with a temple-like structure, outbuildings and a fence—automatically making it a “compound”—and whisked away 220 women and children after receiving an anonymous tip from an allegedly teenage girl who called police and said she had been sexually abused at the compound and had a baby by an adult.
That was Friday. Today is Monday and the cops still haven’t located the girl in the group that made the phone call.
Maybe she doesn’t exist. Maybe she’s a convenient excuse for the government to blast in a la Waco and destroy a group with a lifestyle they don’t condone.
This is from the Associated Press: State troopers raided the ranch to look for evidence that the teen, who called authorities a week ago, was married. They planned to continue interviews Monday with some of the women and children, who were transported to an historic San Angelo museum, said Child Protective Services spokeswoman Marleigh Meisner.
The AP said that 18 children had been taken legally in state custody because authorities thought the chidren had either been harmed or were in imminent danger at the compound. No details were given and no arrests had been made as of Sunday.
Authorities planned to search Monday for more children and documents at the compound, which was built by jailed polygamist leader Warren Jeffs in Eldorado, about 45 miles south of San Angelo.
Da Fuzz is looking for evidence the girl, who allegedly had a baby at 15, and a 50-year-old man were married. Under Texas law, girls younger than 16 cannot marry, even with parental approval.
The AP said a search warrant for the raid instructed officers to look for marriage records or other evidence linking the teen to the man and the baby. The warrant authorized the seizure of computer drives, CDs, DVDs or photos. Police said the adults taken from the compound were cooperating with authorities, and that none were forced to leave the compound.
All of this based on an anonymous call? No other proof? No other information?
Wow, that’s a lot more mileage than I ever got out of the running refrigerator or Prince Albert and the can.
