Catching Up on the Fallen
Hidden explosive devices killed five soldiers in Iraq on Feb. 8 in two separate incidents.
Killed in Taji, Iraq when their vehicle was damaged by an improvised explosive device, were U.S. Army Spc. Michael T. Manibog, 31, of Alameda, Calif., who was assigned to 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division; Sgt. Timothy P. Martin, 27, of Pixley, Calif., who was assigned to 2nd Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division; Staff Sgt. Jerald A. Whisenhunt, 32, of Orrick, Mo., who was assigned to 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division; and Sgt. Gary D. Willett, 34, of Alamogordo, N.M., who was assigned to 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.
All were stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
Also killed was U.S. Army Pfc. Jack T. Sweet, 19, of Alexandria Bay, N.Y.. He died in Jawwalah, Iraq, when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.
