Good news finally found!

In a never ending quest for good news, news that makes you smile and doesn’t make you want to run to the nearest cleaning supply to see if that carpet shampoo solution really is toxic, we find this little bit of brightness: George Mason University students have elected a drag queen as homecoming queen.

According to the Associated Press, which got it from the Washington Post and, if the Post can be believed, GMU student Ryan Allen beat two women, figuratively, for the title at the suburban Washington, D.C. school.

Allen competed under his drag queen persona of Reann Ballslee.

Allen is gay and performs in drag at nightclubs and said he entered as a joke. Winning, however, changes everything. He counts the title as a happy moment and proof that the school celebrates its diverse student body, with the possible exception of Republicans and born-again, fundamentalist religious kooks who aren’t celebrated anywhere on a college campus.

Just kidding about the GOP and reborn.

Anyway, the senior from Goochland County won the pageant at a sold-out homecoming basketball game against Northeastern about a week ago.

It’s not a sign of the Apocalypse, however. It’s just a symptom of it.
