Reality Hurts
After all that state of the union talk and jawing about the surge of troops in Iraq making for a safer environment and all the bickering between candidates as to whether it’s working, there’s one family for whom it don’t mean squat.
Because, whether working or not, it’s still war and, in war, people die.
Here’s the reality of war on terror: Staff Sgt. Robert J. Wilson, 28, of Boynton Beach, Fla., died Jan. 26 of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated while he was conducting a dismounted patrol in Baghdad, Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
Pulling out may stop soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen from dying overseas, but I seriously worry that, within a few years, it will lead to malls exploding here at home. We can’t keep out people determined to make a buck, how can we keep out those determined to kill us?
It’s Solomon’s Choice time here and I don’t like any of the options.
