So Long to Fight

He made it home, even after the bomb blasted through his vehicle. He survived the helicopter flight out, the stop over in Europe and the flight back to his home country. He couldn’t, however, beat the damage the blast did to his body.

U.S. Army Sgt. Mikeal W. Miller, 22, of Albany, Ore., died Jan. 27 at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md., of wounds suffered in Baghdad, Iraq on July 9, 2007, when the vehicle he was in was destroyed by an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.

He fought bravely. His war is over.
