The All Group AA volleyball awards have been doled out and two local players—Western Albemarle’s Sarah Harper and Fluvanna County’s Kayla Walker—earned all state accolades.
Harper, a junior outside hitter, earned first team honors. She was chosen as both the Region II and Jefferson District player of the year as she helped the Warriors advance to the state tournament.
This year, Harper set a new school records for most kills in a season (256), most career kills (496) and most career digs (758).
Walker, a junior outside hitter, earned honorable mention honors. She was a first team all region and all district selection this season. Walker recorded 245 kills, had 22 solo blocks and registered 133 digs for the Flucos.
Kelli Carneal, a senior at Chancellor High School, was named the state’s top player. She also earned Region I and Battlefield District player of the year honors.
Carla Poff of Hidden Valley was chosen as the top coach in Group AA.
