Teams out of the Jefferson District and a couple of local private schools will get a close-up look at some players that will likely be suiting up for Division I programs this time next year. Here’s a look at some area games fellow recruiting geeks might want to check out:
James Monroe at Charlottesville
The Fredericksburg city school is always loaded with talent and this year is no different. JM brings some big offensive lines prospects to C-Ville. William Campbell is a 6-4, 288-pound lineman reportedly getting looks from UVA, Maryland, JMU and Liberty. Down the line from him is Robert McClure, who checks in at 6-3, 265 and is getting recruited by Liberty, ODU, VMI and Georgetown, among others.
Linebacker Kilo Brooks and running back Michael Latney could also attract some attention from lower-level programs.
Louisa County at Spotsylvania
Spotsy struggled mightly last year in the Battlefield District, and the Lions ought to handle the Knights on the road. But Spotsylvania isn’t completely devoid of talent. Wide receiver Elijah Dailey is somebody who could wind up playing on Saturdays for an FCS team, but also might end up on the Division II level.
Goochland at Amelia County
If the Bulldogs can rebound from an opening loss to Benedictine, they will have to do so by stopping defending running back Tyrell Banks. Banks isn’t big (5-7, 165), but he’s big time. He was the MVP of the Follow Through Sports Elite 100 combine last spring and Rivals.com says Virginia and Maryland are both interested in the speedy back.
J.R. Tucker at Woodberry Forest
Tucker makes the drive over from Richmond with a big wide receiver that is getting a lot of attention. Micheal Mey is a big target, listed at 6-5, 190 and Richmond, Liberty and Navy would all like to have him. He also attended the junior day at UVa last spring.
HIs teammate Parker Cherlin is a defensive end who Rivals.com says is getting looks from Delaware, Navy and VIrginia Tech. Cherlin has decent size for a college DE or possibly a linebacker, standing 6-2 and weighing 247.
Fork Union at Loyola Blakefield
Fork Union heads up to Maryland to take on a Loyola team led by quarterback Mike Fafaul, who is reportedly attracting attention from Boston College. Luke Ilardo will block for him on the offensive line and do so hoping to earn himself a Division I scholarship.
