STAB gets ready for playoffs on newly dedicated field

When St. Anne’s-Belfield takes the field on Friday for a rematch against Christchurch in the first round of the it will be the Saints first full game on Frank Addonizio Field.

STAB announced the renaming of the field last week at halftime of the win over rival Blue Ridge, a victory which clinched the No. 1 seed in the state playoffs for the Saints. The late Frank Addonizio was one of STAB’s biggest fans. He also happened to be the grandfather of three of the school’s best athletes ever. Addonizio was the father of Diane Long, mother of Chris, Kyle and Howie Long Jr. Their father, of course, is former Raiders All-Pro Howie Long, who stood below the scoreboard bearing Addonizio’s name during the Saints big win over the Barons.

This playoff opener will be the second matchup against Christchurch in three weeks. The Saints beat the Seahorses 20-13 two weeks ago and did it without star running back Branford Rogers.
