Twin engines drive Colonial Forge

If you are heading to Albemarle’s game at Colonial Forge on Friday, don’t be fooled into thinking you are seeing double. It’s not your eyes playing tricks on you, it’s just that eight of the Eagles best players are twins. The four sets of brothers figure to make it yet another tough Commonwealth District matchup for Albemarle (2-2, 0-1 in the district). Blake and Eric Frohnapfel are joined by David and Daniel Williams, Dallas and Donald Driver and Trey and Pete Reed. All are good football players, but the Frohnapfels are the stars.

Quarterback Blake is committed to Marshall and had scholarship offers from Wake Forest, JMU and others. Eric is a tight end who committed to West Virginia and also had a scholarship offer from UVa. So far this season Blake has completed 35 of 61 passes for 629 yards and nine touchdowns. He’s also rushed for 337 yards, leading the Eagles to a 4-0 start. Eric has 10 catches for 232 yards and a pair of TDs.

All of it begs the question, are the Frohnapfels the best set of twins to come out of the Virginia high school football ranks since Tiki and Ronde Barber played at Cave Spring in Roanoke. I’ve racked my brain and used Google to try and come up with other challengers, but I’m drawing a blank. If any readers out there have thoughts on the subject, please post a comment below or e-mail me at .
