Survivor: Florez

Now that “The Amazing Race” has run its course, I’m having a reality check.
“Survivor” is in the wings, Feb. 7 to be exact, and it appears that we will have a couple of Virginians to root for, no matter which team you like best.
“Survivor: Micronesia” will pit a team of “Survivor” fans against a team of “Survivor” favorite players.
Tracy Hughes-Wolf, a 43-year-old commercial builder from Fredericksburg, was picked to represent the newcomers.
Jon Dalton from Danville will be on the favorites.
Favorites?
Are you kidding me?
Better known as Jonny Fairplay, the 33-year-old blond was anything but fair. He’s the guy who lied about his grandmother dying just so he could win a prize.
I don’t care if he did go to Virginia Tech, I’m not rooting for that guy.
I hope Hughes-Wolf fairs better than last season’s Virginian. Rich Valley’s Steve “Chicken” Morris was the first one booted out of China.
Speaking of last season, did you know that there was a “Survivor:China” link to Charlottesville?
Remember the good guy/virgin, Erik?
Well, the good-looking 26-year-old lives in Nashville, but he plays bass and sings for a band named Florez. That’s the same band that Charlottesville’s own Alex Mejias played drums for during his law school days at the University of Virginia.
Small world.
Mejias, by the way, will be having a CD release party at Satellite Ballroom on Thursday (Jan. 31). It only costs $8, $6 in ad-vance. Word has it a couple of his pals from Florez will be there to share the stage.
Stay tuned.
