The defending Group A, Division 1 champs are finally in action tonight as Pickle Nuckols leads the Bison onto the field against Bath County in Swoope. A heated Augusta County rivalry is on tap, Waynesboro’s second-year coach hosts the team he left in Crozet and R.E. Lee plays a team it battled with twice and beat both times last year (including the playoffs).

Don’t care what Southern Valley school you go to or which school’s colors you wear.
When it comes to being a fan of high school football you got to love how Dae’Quan Scott plays the game over at R.E. Lee. Touted as one of the most talented football players to take the gridiron in 2008, Scott did little to dispel that hype in his team’s opener on Friday—scampering his way into the end zone four times against Fort Defiance and keying a 40-18 victory over an overmatched Indians squad that never backed down.
Toggling between the butt-numbing bleachers and standing against a fence, I watched Justin Verlander give up one hit and lose to Clarke County. I watched Jake Peeling wrap his dad in a hug after pitching a no-hitter.
