To be honest, I don’t care if somebody throws the ball into the crowd where it bounces off someone’s head, flies back onto the court, takes a bounce off Gap’s Travis Ashby and ... swish ... nothing but net.
We’d like to think nobody was as shocked as we were to see R.E. Lee’s girls basketball team in the No. 10 spot on the first Associated Press Virginia Prep Poll released Tuesday.

Unless you spent all of the 2007-08 basketball season hunkered down in some stalactite-filled cavern (and, no, your parents’ basement playing World of Warcraft does not count), you knew that this season would be a struggle for the Waynesboro boys and girls basketball teams.

Here we go again.
R.E. Lee boys team isn’t as dominant as it could be and, all of a sudden, the rest of the state labels the Southern Valley as a “weak” district. Sorry. I’m not buying it, so don’t even flaunt that in my face.

You know like, what took you so long Waynesboro and Stuarts Draft to realize that what you’re doing Friday night and Jan 16 with your basketball teams (girls, boys doubleheaders at the schools) is the right way to go?
Toggling between the butt-numbing bleachers and standing against a fence, I watched Justin Verlander give up one hit and lose to Clarke County. I watched Jake Peeling wrap his dad in a hug after pitching a no-hitter.
