And we’re in Richmond

It was an emotional send off for the Green Hornets this morning around 11 a.m. when they left the school to a throng of students and made their way to the yellow school bus they’ll be taking down here through a tunnell of high fives from their school chums.

They boarded the bus and drove to Wilson Elementary where they were met by loud cheering from the youngsters and two huge signs. “Let’s Go Hornets” read one, held up by a raucous group of boys who kept cheering, “Let’s go Wilson.“ The other sign was pink and held up by a group of girls. It said, “We Love You Miss Aronson,“ a tip-of-their-cap to Wilson volleyball player Julia Aronson who teaches in a mentorship program at the school.

Aronson stopped at the sign,  held her hand to her mouth then smiled and made sure she hugged every one of the girls holding that sign up. The rest of the team followed suit — smiling and hugging each student as they made their way down the line.

Coach Kim Claytor did the same, saying “thank you,“ to every student and giving one last wave and thumbs up before hopping on the bus.

Much, much more to come.
