Friday Night Football (maybe) Picks

It’s Friday (or so my computer reads) which means there’s football tonight (eh, maybe thanks to the rain) and I know who’s winning these games (probably).

Waynesboro (1-4, 0-1) at Rockbridge (3-1, 1-0)

When Waynesboro’s speedy running backs aren’t spending their energy avoiding tackles in the backfield instead of using it running downhill (which guys like Terrell Thompson certainly can do with gusto) then I’ll start picking them to win. Though not against Rockbridge, a team that makes that debacle against Jefferson Forest seem like it took place last century.

Rockbridge wins big unless the Little Giants get things together and really quick.

Harrisonburg (3-2, 1-0) at Fort Defiance (1-3, 0-2)

One of the bigger disappointments in the Southern Valley—come on, you know you though Fort Defiance would be better than this in 2008—takes on a Blue Streaks team that just scored a huge win over Stuarts Draft.

We all know where this game is going and it’s not going to be good for the Indians.

Blue Streaks win this one.

Turner Ashby (3-2, 1-0) at R.E. Lee (5-0, 1-0)

If they would have played this game tonight, it would have been a lot closer than people expected. The rain (maybe) would have slowed down Dae’Quan Scott (just a bit, not much though) and the high-powered Leemen offense.

The Powers That Be have moved the game to Monday, which should be drier, and means the same old Lee and (probably) the same old score. Will the Leemen dump 45 (or 40, whichever) on Turner Ashby? Yeah, I think they can.

R.E. Lee moves to 6-0 and proves they are the best team in this part of the Valley.

Spotswood (2-3, 0-2) at Stuarts Draft (3-2, 1-0)

The Cougars are coming off an embarrassing loss that saw the Alex Owahless Blue Streaks put 50 points on the board. In Cougarland, they don’t get mad, they get more fundamentally sound after a loss.

That, IMHO (as the kids type), is scarier.

Stuarts Draft picks up a win by 10 points.

Wilson Memorial (0-3, 0-0) at Covington (0-4, 0-0)

When you look at the schedule and compare it to Wilson Memorial’s youth and lack of size, this is one of the few chances (barring any surprises, of course) during this rebuilding season that the Green Hornets have a shot at picking up a W.

Against a weak Covington team, Wilson does it. But not by much.

Clarke County (n/a) at Riverheads (2-1, 0-0)

Clarke County is coming off a bad loss. Riverheads has been doing nothing but all the right things as the weeks progress.

Riverheads wins by 10.

See, told you, I know (possibly) who’s going to win.
