Just some questions for Fort Defiance ...

OK, just a few (OK, maybe plenty of) questions for Fort Defiance principal Larry Landes and AD Jack Tucker.

Mainly, why?

Why would you fire wrestling coach Terry Waters? Seriously, why?

What, was the seventh winningest coach in the state of Virginia not good enough for you?

Or did you want more than two state champs?

Or did you desire three undefeated seasons instead of two? Or was it that one losing season in 14 years at the helm that got your break-the-hearts-of-every-wrestler-in-the-Fort-Defiance-program (and we’re talking middle and elementary school here folks) BVDs in a bunch?

Or did you suddenly feel the need to send another successful coach packing, you know, like the school did to Tony Clark a few years back? You remember him, right? The girls basketball coach that led the Indians to the state tournament that was told the school wanted to take the program in a different direction?

Can we ask which direction that is? Is it down? Was the girls basketball team’s no-win Southern Valley District run this past season the direction you wanted to take the program in?  And, hey, when you gonna tell us why Laura Bowman won’t be on the bench coaching those girls next season?

How hard were you fishing for a reason to get rid of Waters? Please, can you answer this one for us?

Is Waters right when he says you guys told him that he lacked relationships with other coaches?

What, is this guy supposed to play poker and drink brewskis with every Fort coach? Tell us what a “relationship” is? Is it one of your coaches sending this sports columnist an e-mail after he wrote a column about Waters overcoming adversity (he’s legally deaf) telling us we shouldn’t give Waters and his 231-65 record any more publicity? Do you call that being part of the team?

I mean, he only had the most wins in Augusta County, right? So I guess this coach e-mailing us that can be considered a “relationship,“ right?

How are you going to explain this to the wrestlers? We can’t be the only ones that want to hear this reply, right?  How are you going to explain this to Jeff Weeks? The kid Waters visited when he was in the hospital? How are you going to explain this to the fans of Fort Defiance wrestling?

Seriously, we can’t be the only ones that want to hear these answers, right?

How long can we wait until you realize what a mistake you made?

Really, are the good-old boys that important? Was quenching their thirst for control worth upsetting a group of kids? And parents? And fans?

Please, tell us how you’re going to explain this to a group of wrestlers that would take a bullet for coach that treated them like family?

We can’t be the only ones that can’t wait to hear these answers? Right?

I mean, when did high school sports stop being about the kids and start being about you bending over backwards for numskulls?

But hey, that’s just us. And we’re just asking.

The Fort Defiance wrestling family (which it is) will now put the phone down and await your reply. (And tell us whilst your at it.)

Sadly, we know it will probably never come.

But you know how that goes fans, right? A district that can’t schedule basketball games and closes volleyball practices to the media when a team struggles like the numskulls in charge of Giantdom did.

Like they say, there ain’t no use being an AD or principal in the Southern Valley DoesStink if you can’t act like you’re and AD or principal in the Southern Valley DoesStink?

Right?
