Some things I don’t understand and, trust me, I’m trying

And no, this isn’t a blog about how the MLB finally decided to move games up by, wait for it ... wait for it .. a whole freakin’ half and hour during the World Series. (Sorry, I’m not a publisher who still tries to play sports writer). Nor is it a blog about Blue Jays ace Troy, Frank, Bob, Ron,

Doc Halladay. (Or whatever the heck his name is, sorry, he’s not local therefore I don’t spell his name because you don’t freakin’ care!)

But there are a few things I can’t understand and here’s a few of them as we enter the height of district playoff season (yet some people still think you want to read about national spots. Bshaw!)

Seriously, they’re taking three Southern Valley softball teams to Region III? Come on, folks. Only two deserve to go — Fort Defiance (Duh) and Stuarts Draft. That’s it. Lock. The. Thread.

Really? So, let me get this straight. You can make it to the regional finals in baseball, softball, soccer, you-name-it, lose, yet still score yourself a state berth. However, in tennis, you have to win your region to make it to states. This makes sense how? (Have we not done enough injustices to these “non-revenue” sports?)

So, the Southern Valley has five teams in it (six starting next year) so then why do they dump the No. 5 seed and tell them the postseason is “No, not yours”? This makes no sense to me. Let them play. Um, hello, the Shenandoah District does a little thing called “first-round byes” that seem to work pretty good. Sigh ... ain’t no use being the Southern Valley District if you can’t act like the Southern Valley District, right?

What the heck are they going to do next year? Dump the bottom two? I would not doubt it.

Let me ask again, how on the gods’ green earth does a School Superintendent’s monthly newsletter get out with Paul Hatcher called R.E. Lee’s “legendary BASEBALL coach”? I. Want. Answers. Darnit.

OK, I thought I had more. But that’s all I got.

See you at the local games.
