The Friday Night Picks

Busy day (evident by how late this post is going up), so I’m going to keep it short and sweet as I thrown my magic stick in the air and see where it lands.

So, who is winning Friday?, you ask. You may (or may not, whichever) have asked the right person:

Wilson Memorial at Riverheads

The Green Hornets have won two straight, but that stops here. Sorry, Wilson Memorial. But as the weeks have gone on, the Gladiators have found some measure of consistency, something coach Robert Casto has longed for most of the season.

Sure, Wilson has found its workhorse (RB Richard Andrews) but Riverheads is filled with horses, and they usually get stronger when on the homestretch—which the Shenandoah District is.

Riverheads by 14.

Page County at Buffalo Gap

The high-flying Panthers come to Swoope with hopes of stalling the hard-grinding Bison’s undefeated streak. High-scoring game? Yes. A Page County win? Nope.

Gap by seven in a high-scoring affair.

Turner Ashby at Fort Defiance

The Knights are riding high. The Indians are looking for some semblance of consistency and solid play for four quarters. It’s not going to happen against Turner Ashby.

Knights win this one by 20.

Waynesboro at Broadway

If the Little Giants shake up their offense a bit, not hardly with coach Steve Isaacs’ reliance and love of the single-wing and the past success it’s brought him, they could surprise the Gobblers.

But, like I just said, that is not going to happen here.

Broadway by 14.

North Cross at Fishburne

Sigh. Really? North Cross.

Stuarts Draft at R.E. Lee

Sorry, but the Cougars aren’t there yet. They’re young and will be a force next season. Right now, however, R.E. Lee is the force in the Southern Valley (along with Rockbridge). If the Dae’ Quan Scott can get his passes up (a lot fell short in the dirt against Waynesboro last week) and those WRs can hold onto the ball (they dropped a few last week against the Little Giants) then this offense gets that much scarier.

R.E. Lee by 10.

We’ll have more tomorrow including comments on this weeks Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta Power Rankings from VirginiaPreps.com.
