Augusta County schools on 1-hour delay for Wednesday

Augusta County schools will open on a one-hour delay Wednesday.

The county schools were closed Tuesday, while Waynesboro and Staunton city schools were on a two-hour delay following a snowstorm that brought several inches of snow to the region.

It will remain cold through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service, but it says high temperatures are expected to warm up to near 50 on Friday and into the upper 50s from Saturday through at least next Tuesday.

The National Weather Service forecast for the Waynesboro area:

Tonight: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. Northwest wind between 6 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Wednesday: A slight chance of snow before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 33. Northwest wind between 9 and 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 13. Northwest wind between 7 and 14 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 31. West wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 17. West wind between 3 and 6 mph.
