Break-ins continue in S’Draft; information sought

Seven weekend break-ins to cars and buildings within a one-mile radius in Stuarts Draft have authorities looking for a pattern among pockets of crime that have popped up since the start of the year.

On streets near the Forest Springs neighborhood, four GPS units were taken from cars, along with medicine and cash, and on two occasions burglars grabbed money from a home and the Country Connections store.

Capt. Glenn Hanger of the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office said investigators are using computer software to search for patterns among break-ins in the past 90 days and continue to share information with Rockbridge County authorities.

“It’s safe to say we’re increasing patrol and increasing our diligence,” Hanger said Tuesday.

To read a February report on area break-ins, including details about the nature of some of the crimes, read “Counties on the lookout,” from Feb. 27.
