Rate increases up for vote tonight

Water, sewer and trash rate increases are up for a vote tonight at the Waynesboro City Council meeting.

Just one person spoke at a public hearing on the rate increases. The rate increase proposal was brought forth to the council back in November. The council most recently squabbled over trash rates, though they agreed - except for Councilwoman Lorie Smith - on changes to that.

If adopted, the rate increases would take effect Jan. 1. Two more increases are planned as part of the city’s way to pay for capital improvement upgrades.
