Staunton, Augusta County leaders make case for state funds

Members of Staunton’s City Council and the Augusta County Board of Supervisors went to Richmond yesterday to make their case for a piece of the state budget pie, citing diminishing money for law enforcement, the Commonwealth Center’s impending closure and public education cuts. See video here.

Members of both governmental bodies went to Richmond for the annual meeting of the Virginia Municipal League and Association of Counties.

Staunton City Manager Steve Owen told NBC29:

“I would say do no more harm. Local governments are struggling now, as are all sectors, and I understand that the state is too. But we are not in a position to take any more budget cuts from the state, so we have to go down there and fight for every dollar.“
